Abstract:
Aerial planimetric/topographic (plan/topo) base map tile covering one quarter section extent of land in Wyandotte County, KS, at a nominal scale of 1:1200, in AutoCAD DWG digital file format in Kansas North State Plane coordinates in U.S. Survey feet.

Map product was prepared by MJ Harden Assoc., photogrammetric vendor for Unified Government of Kansas City/Wyandotte County, KS departments, and Board of Public Utilities in Wyandotte Co., KS

These plan/topo datasets contain standard plan feature layers, including edge of pavement (roads), sidewalks, fences, building footprints, retaining walls, parking lots, power poles, and signs, among others. Contour lines are shown at 2 foot intervals, with index contours at 10 foot intervals.

Line feature data represent a composite of different years of aerial photo mission  content using stereo compilation. No field collection of plan data was performed. Meets National Map Accuracy Standards (NMAS) at specified scale of 1" = 100'.

These CAD maps were created over various years using various aerial photo years. An index to latest photo year for each map tile number is available.
Purpose:
Developed to serve as plan/topo base maps for Unified Government's (UG) Enterprise GIS (E-GIS), and for use in conventional base mapping applications geared originally for tax assessment, utility, and engineering purposes.

They serve as base maps for Electric and Water utility divisions of Board of Public Utilities in Wyandotte County, KS, and as base maps for engineering planning and analysis by divisions in the UG's Department of Public Works.

Fair to good CAD layer table attribution (name, layer number, symbol code, etc). Some inconsistencies have been found in previous map editions.

There may be factual errors in annotation layers (street names, address numbers) since this data is not rigorously tested.
Logical_Consistency_Report:
In some older edition maps, coincident line features on different layers (e.g. a retaining wall segment adjoining a sidewalk edge) will not be faithfully depicted on both feature layers, that is, the coincident segment will appear on one layer but be missing on the other layer.

Edge matching-- datasets of different map editions/years may not edge match well-- symbology may be offset, overshoot, or undershoot. Most abutting maps, especially of of this edition, should edge match reasonably well by using a common grid for tiling map extents.

Line features representing polygons, such as building outlines, may not be topologically correct closed polygons.

Some earlier vintage datasets may contain inconsistent layer naming and feature symbology codes

The horizontal accuracy will be such that not more than 10% of the points tested shall be in error by more than 1/30 inch at the originally stipulated map publication scale when compared to the nearest horizontal control station. For the intended scale of this mapping, the specified error tolerance (1/30 of 1" = 100') is +/- 3.33 feet.

However, these maps have not been field-checked for accuracy. Vendor states that responsibility for map testing rests with Unified Government/Board of Public Utilities. Such testing has apparently never been conducted at any time in life cycle of these maps.

In areas where the ground is obscured on the photographs, such as areas of dense foliage or coniferous growth, contours may not meet the previously defined National Map Accuracy Standards and no warranty is expressed or implied concerning such areas. Wherever possible, however, spot elevations will be shown to provide the most complete and accurate vertical information available from the photography used for this project

Analytical Aerotriangulation. Using  imagery and field survey controls, aerotriangulation is performed. This consists of developing a network of horizontal and vertical positions from a group of know field control positions utilizing direct and indirect measurements from the digital photography and mathematical computations. This method accurately determines horizontal position (x and y) and elevation (z) of supplemental control points for each individual stereo projection.

Capture of planimetric and contour detail. Controlled stereo models are viewed on stereo compilation workstations to collect visible, identifiable new plan features (see list at bottom) from the aerial imagery that is generally shown on 1"= 100'  maps. Plan features no longer visible are removed from map document. No field data collection or verification is performed at any stage.

Using existing Digital Terrain Model (DTM), stereo compilation technicians collect break lines and random spot elevations in areas of change. Then these digital data files are transferred to MJ Hardens's Cartographic Department where DTM data is processed to generate contours at 2 foot intervals.
