Abstract:
Point feature GIS layer of all educational facilities in Wyandotte County, KS. Included in this dataset are public and private schools at all grade levels from pre-K to university. Ancillary non-academic educational facilities are also included (administrative and maintenance buildings, libraries, etc.). Companion datasets for related 1) campus grounds polygon feature layer, 2) educational structure outlines polygon feature layer), 3) plan line features like driveways, fences, etc., 4) plan point features like poles, light posts, 5) facility property boundaries, and 6) GIS annotation labels are available to complement this point layer. Purpose:
Dataset developed as a supplemental cultural features layer made available to the Unified Government's Enterprise GIS. It is useful for general mapping at 1:1200 and smaller. Accompanying annotation dataset text is suitable for 1:7200 scale and larger.

Attributes are sourced essentially from original external sources, being mostly taken from official records of education institutions (with some exceptions). Some attribution, such as enrollment and faculty counts, may be several years old as of publication date due to lack of access to most current figures at time of publication.
Logical_Consistency_Report:
One point feature allowed per each separate educational facility-- point placed in approx. center of building footprint as evidenced by ortho aerial imagery. In cases where a facility is comprised of multiple detached buildings, point was located in principal or main structure as interpreted from photography. If a facility was co-located in a multi-use structure, point was placed in approx. actual location within shared structure outline. No post-compilation field work was performed to field-verify locations.

Database (attribution) schema was designed. Point feature capture was performed using heads-up digitizing method, with ortho aerial images, parcel base, and CAD plan features as aids. Relevant attribution was entered with each point. X,Y (KNSP units) coordinate values were also captured for each point.
