The State Historical statute has a 500’ environs clause-- that means properties that are within or touched by this 500 foot environs zone must approved by the Kansas State Historic Preservation Officer before any construction, demolition or maintenance can occur. Historic districts list may change over time. This is a companion dataset to historic_dist_py, a GIS layer of actual historical district boundaries. Furnished in ESRI shapefile format in Kansas North State Plane coordinates, NAD83, units US feet.

Abstract:
GIS layer depicting 500 feet buffer areas surrounding Kansas City Kansas/Kansas  historical districts that have Kansas State historical district status.

This is a companion dataset to historic_dist_py, a GIS layer of actual historical district boundaries.

Furnished in ESRI shapefile format in Kansas North State Plane coordinates, NAD83, units US feet.

Purpose:
Environs (buffer) zone is required for historic preservation management activities. Provides supplementary cultural GIS dataset to support Unified Government's Enterprise GIS. May also be useful for city planning and zoning studies.
