Abstract:
Point feature GIS layer of local government facilities in Wyandotte County, KS. All 28 locations in this dataset are selected government sites of interest in County. Representative features include city halls, adminstrative offices, maintenance installations, and court buildings, among others. Government public safety facilities and utility infrastructure are not included. 

Companion datasets for installation grounds and building outlines (both polygon feature layers) are available to complement this point layer. Contact GSS for more information.

Purpose:
Dataset developed as a supplemental cultural featues layer made available to the Unified Government's Enterprise GIS. It is most useful for general mapping at 1:1200 and smaller. Accompanying annotation dataset text is suitable for 1:7200 scale and larger.

Only one point feature per facility site, as a rule placed in center of main building/complex outline, even if multiple structures exist at the site.

Believed to be fairly comprehensive inventory of local government sites of interest in Wyandotte County but no extensive research was carried out to identify all possible sites for inclusion in this dataset. Users should consider this dataset a good representative snapshot of local public facilities in the County.

Process description:
Initial desktop research yielded prospective list of local government facilities candidates. Site locations were verified and attribution such as address and phone contact numbers were collected, if available. In GIS software, location points were obtained through heads-up digitizing using digital planimetric footprints as reference basis and aerial imagery as an comparative overlay and verification source. Attribution was added, including x,y coordinate values of points as calculated geometry in the software.
